Globally Harmonized System (GHS) update to Hazard Communication Standard

Safety Data Sheets and GHS Labels

Chemical manufacturers should have completed the new chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s).  You should be seeing updated SDS now. However, many printers have not received their new SDS’s yet.

  • Printing companies should remind their suppliers to send the new SDS’s and document this.

If you require assistance with your Safety Data Sheet library, PIM is here to help.  Contact Paul at 612/400.6205 or Cathy at 612/868.6771.

OSHA required training

It’s not too late to conduct this mandatory training!

If your company uses chemicals, you must train your employees on the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS) labeling and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s).

Training has always been required with the existing Right-to-Know or Hazard Communication standard.  OSHA changed that standard.  Training must include information about the new GHS label elements and SDS’s.  The SDS’s will replace the Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDS’s.  Training can be blended into your current Right-to-Know or Hazard Communication training.

Did you train your employees on GHS?  If not, do not despair – but do get it done as quickly as possible to avoid possible fines.  PIM can help! Contact Paul Gutkowski to have PIM conduct your training. Or visit Printing Industries of America web site to obtain training information to conduct the training yourself (note: this option will not cover the other OSHA required training like fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment or lockout/tagout).

In Minnesota, this training must be done annually.
